Look of the Week Rihanna’s Fluffy Bathrobe

Rihanna has officially given bathroom chic her stamp of approval. At the UK launch of her latest beauty venture, Fenty Hair, the global icon stepped out in style outside Selfridges, London’s iconic department store—not in traditional satin or sequins, but in a plush, off-the-shoulder bathrobe.

The cream-colored robe, designed by Jacquemus, was styled by Jaheel Weaver and paired with gold point-toe pumps and stunning long crystal earrings. This standout piece first graced the runway in June 2024 during the label’s Fall-Winter collection showcase in Capri.

On the catwalk, the outfit exuded the charm of a wealthy Italian woman enjoying the comforts of her home—or perhaps lounging on the balcony of a historic mansion with a glass of wine. Yet, on Rihanna, with her full glam makeup and sleek, glossy black waves, this bathroom staple was elevated into elegant, enviable evening wear.

Rihanna isn’t the first to transform a housecoat into haute couture. At the 2017 MTV EMAs, singer Rita Ora made a splash on the red carpet in a white toweling robe, her hair wrapped in a towel and paired with crystal-encrusted heels. Dripping in diamonds—from layered necklaces to dangling earrings—she sported a look adorned with a faux hotel logo, crafted by Palomo Spain. Ora even kept the playful theme alive by changing into a shorter bathrobe for her live performance.

More recently, Isabelle Huppert has championed bathrobe-inspired textiles for the red carpet. At the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, she donned a fluffy Balenciaga robe cinched at the waist, paired with her signature black sunglasses, a knot of De Beers necklaces, and a tousled bob. The ensemble was completed with Balenciaga flesh-toned ‘pantaboots,’ enhancing the high-fashion fantasy of looking effortlessly chic after a shower.

Now, thanks to these style icons, anyone can feel as glamorous as Rihanna—even from the comfort of their own home.
