Red carpet season has returned in full swing, with the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards bringing television’s biggest stars to LA’s Peacock Theater on Sunday. After last year’s ceremony was delayed to January due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes, the Emmys have resumed their usual September slot, offering a glimpse into potential trends for the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards, and setting the stage for upcoming Hollywood fashion.

This year’s red carpet featured a relatively understated palette, with many stars opting for dark, floor-length gowns and classic silhouettes. Yet, amidst the sea of elegant black outfits, there were standout moments of flair. Laverne Cox’s vintage Alexander McQueen dress shimmered with subtle gold detailing, while Selena Gomez sparkled in a Ralph Lauren halter gown with a dazzling pavé neckline.

The evening also saw a notable emphasis on pink. Meryl Streep dazzled in a bubblegum pink pantsuit with a pussy bow blouse, and Hannah Einbinder turned heads in a dusty pink Louis Vuitton crepe jersey and tulle gown. Eiza González and Aja Naomi King joined the trend, wearing Tamara Ralph and Giambattista Valli, respectively.

In a departure from the norm, attendees showcased eye-catching materials and textures. “The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri captivated in a mosaic-like sequined Bottega Veneta ensemble, while Quinta Brunson’s strapless Georges Chakra couture mermaid dress appeared almost liquid. Kristen Wiig, in Oscar de la Renta, and Gillian Anderson, in Emilia Wickstead, were among those who embraced silvery metallics, while Ella Purnell’s chainmail Rabanne gown added an extra edge.

Menswear also deviated from traditional black-tie. Chris Perfetti of “Abbott Elementary” impressed in a dramatic ruffled shirt from Christian Siriano’s Spring 2025 collection, while “Fallout” star Aaron Moten made a statement in an all-red Kenzo suit with a Nehru collar. “The Traitors” actor Alan Cumming and fellow Scot Richard Gadd, creator of “Baby Reindeer,” both donned kilts, with Cumming’s plaid cummerbund ingeniously doubling as a train and scarf.

Even those opting for conventional tailoring infused their looks with playful elements. Host Dan Levy’s sculptural Loewe neckline and Jonathan Bailey’s unbuttoned silky Giorgio Armani shirt added a touch of modernity to classic menswear.
